Pika Energy, manufacturer of the T701 home wind turbine, recently completed a turbine installation at the National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) in Boulder, Colorado. Operated by the National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL), NWTC is the country’s premiere facility for testing wind turbines of all sizes. The installation enables Pika Energy and NREL to analyze the performance of the T701 turbine in a highly monitored environment. Additionally, Pika will use the center’s specialized test equipment and expertise to perform accelerated lifetime testing on the T701’s injection-molded blades.

“Operating a Pika turbine at NWTC is a key milestone in our company’s mission of developing the most thoroughly tested small wind turbine on the market,” said Joshua Kaufman, Pika Energy’s Director of R&D. “With winter wind speed often topping 100 mph, this installation will undoubtedly improve our understanding of how to best design and manufacture for high reliability and long life.”

The Pika Energy T701 wind turbine installed at NWTC is mounted atop a 65-foot SMarT tower, developed by Pika partner company AnemErgonics. Like Pika wind turbines, SMarT towers are designed and manufactured in the US. Pika Energy wind turbines are currently available for sale in the US through a network of qualified dealers.
